This is a HANDS-ON seminar in which you will actually draft and refine your 30-second commercial. Even if you already have one, this is a great opportunity to re-evaluate its effectiveness, get immediate feedback, and learn tips and tricks to make your networking time as effective as possible.

Outline

Instruction session - I go over the key elements of a 30-second commercial (30SC) and show an example of one being developed. I also touch on 90 second commercials and discussions.

Individual brainstorming session - Each person writes down the key messages they want to convey in their 30SC (with a secondary list for 90SC and discussion situations). People who already have a 30SC analyze what they have and if they want to make any modifications.

Pair feedback session - Everyone pairs off with someone else and gives feedback on each others' 30SC.

Individual refining session - Each person works to make changes based on their feedback.

Sharing session - Each person gives their 30SC to the whole group. If time allows, have members give constructive feedback after each 30SC.

Bonus take-away advice - Is there a way to bring a hands-on element into your 30SC to more quickly and clearly convey your key points? Discuss different types of networking meetings and how to utilize them. The importance of deliberate follow-up.
